Our Official Cyberpunk History 2029 thru 2042

2029

President Eddington recognizes the Martian Republic and restores cycler service to Mars. All US prisoners of war are returned by Martian Republic. The second cycler ship is put into service later that year. The EU refuses to recognize the Martian Republic, but agrees to a cease-fire. Mars cancels its offensive against the United States and the EU. It was a bluff anyway. The Martian Republic is barely hanging on.

Spring: The EUS Aachen (sister ship to the destroyed EUS Strasbourg) is launched, and construction of the third ship in this class, the EUS Roma, begins.

Summer: Connecticut holds a constitutional Convention at Hartford and over the next ten months hammers out a constitution that call for elections for a provisional government in the fall of 2030.

Fall: Port Authority Forces take all of Manhattan north of George Washington Bridge and Route 95. Resistance is surprisingly light. Reconstruction commences immediately.

2030

O’Neill Two (the Galileo Station) at the L-3 point announces its intention to move to the Martian L1 point using its new stabilizing engines. These recently installed engines are far bigger than necessary for maintaining position at the less than stable L-3 point. EU objections are muted as the United States and Russia announce support for the move after the Martian Republic and the Galileo Station announce a treaty bringing the O’Neill into the Republic. Martian Republic returns all EU prisoners of war on humanitarian grounds. The EU and the Mars Republic sign an Armistice suspending their hostilities officially. Galileo Station begins its journey that fall.

Summer: Encouraged by the lack of resistance to the seizure of Inman, the Port Authority pushes their wall south to the end of Harlem Heights. The fourteen-month Battle of Harlem Heights begins. This is the most severe test of the Port Authority’s Security apparatus.

Fall: Space faring terrestrial powers immediately fall to bickering over possession of L-3 point in the earth-moon system abandoned by the Galileo Station. The Mars Republic/Galileo Station remains in control of the point by leaving a two very large battlestats and a space station at the point.

Connecticut reenters the Union as a fully participating state.

2031

“A disaffected family member of an officer who died on the Martian debacle” assassinates President Eddington in August. Vice President David Whindham becomes President of the United States. United States corporations fall in line behind now President Whindham, and an economic boom grips the country.

Mars enters Solar System exploration with an expedition to the Jovian System lead by the MSS Deimos. It carries with them one half of the second “wormhole-like gate” created by the Martian/Super Solo scientists.

Russia launches its second space gunship, the Gagarin. The EU proposes a moratorium on construction of new space warships to be followed by a conference starting the next year to discuss space disarmament. Russia and Japan agree, but President Whindham insists the EU suspend construction on the EUS Roma or allow the United States to construct a replacement for the lost USS Constellation. He even offers to suspend construction on the United States’ new carrier, the USS Yorktown, which is nearing completion. The EU refuses, and insists the United States adhere to the same conditions that Japan and Russia agreed to. Against President Whindham’s wishes the Senate refuses to fund the new gunship, and cuts funds for the USS Yorktown, slowing its completion.

2032

The Carbon Plague erupts in Night City after an AV crashes and releases the pathogen. The situation soon becomes too much for NorCal to handle as its spreads east and across the Pac Rim. NorCal teeters on the brink of collapse. President David Whindham mobilizes the government to fight this new plague and secures the cooperation of most developed countries. In NorCal the unionist movement got a lot of strength and Governor deLaVega is defeated and the Free State petitions for full statehood.

Fall: Despite opposition from the Senate, the USS Yorktown is launched in October, but budgetary considerations keep it from being fully operational until the middle of the next summer.

President Whindham is overwhelmingly reelected for his own first term. The Republicans gain control of the Senate. Connecticut reenters the Union as a fully participating state. General Pershing returns to Washington as Deputy Commandant of the Marines.

December: The CDC produces a cure for the Carbon Plague. A portion of the protein sequence used in the creation of biogens is incorporated into the delivery vector for the retrovirus. By Presidential order the formula for the cure is to be distributed free of charge to all the governments and corporations of the world. President Whindham is hailed as a wise and compassionate world leader. Recipients of the cure register as biogens, further complicating efforts to identify and regulate development of hybrids.

2033:

The Carbon Plague situation is complicated by the black market sales of a supposed vaccine by criminal organizations. These supposed cures turn out be anything from a vial of colored water to a cocktail of nano-groomers. In the very worst cases, they contain the pathogen. Unsubstantiated claims that infusions of blood from uninfected individuals or those that are immune to the plague can stave off the “crystallization” process fuel raids on blood banks and abductions across the country. Poisoning by ingesting supposed cures; botched transfusions and deaths by exsanguinations may claim more victims in Romania than the Plague itself.

Galileo Station arrives at Martian L-1 point (in Sun-Mars system). Its large engines allow the station to maintain its position. Scientists and Earthbound governmental officials realize that Mars now has enough of a population, technical expertise, and orbiting factories to be self-sufficient from Earth. The Martian Republic announces the construction of Unity City.

The EUS Roma, the third ship in this class is launched, and construction of the EUS Orleans, begins in secret. Two months later, in a move that shocks the world, the EU launches a huge space carrier, the EUS Charlemagne, from its test bed platform at the L-2 point. It dwarfs every vessel in existence. Construction commences on another ship of the same class. Russia and Japan drop out of the Space Disarmament Talks as the EU announces its intent to “spread its influence” (and control) to all parts of the solar system. A space armament race begins. The EU officially separates the EU Space Fleet from the ESA. RUK protests strongly.

Fall: Port Authority pushed wall up from south to about 35th Street. This is just south of crater. The projected Battle for New York, which was predicted to be more violent than the Battle of Harlem Heights, fizzles out by the following spring when all resistance melts away.

2034

The Japanese start construction of a space carrier of their own, the Zuikaku. The United States Senate approves the funding and construction commences on the U.S.S. Constitution, the fourth ship of the Agamemnon class. NorCal becomes a full state again with special status for Night City and Stateline (with SoCal). Senator Roy deChartier goes to Washington as senator from Night City.

The first private/corporate space colonization program is begun. Dynalar Technologies, IEC and the Metal Society launch a FBC colony ship to the planet Mercury. It will reach the innermost planet by 2036.

Late that year the MSS Deimos and its towed “space station” reach the Jovian system. The USS Andromeda does not try to engage the MSS Deimos. Instead, the two states open secret negotiations. The United States makes momentous decision (after much politicking and realization that the Martian Republic has a better warship there) and decides to share the “secret moon” of Jupiter. A secret alliance is formed at the Presidential/Consular level and the United States and the Martian Republic begin to cooperate in their space ambitions. The Martian Expedition reports no sign of the previous two space crafts. The Jovian/Mars Gate commences operation in secret. Mars Expedition reaches Jovian System and this results in Project Longreach to Alpha Centauri.

Fall: Wall finished up to__________Street.

2035

Russia begins construction of the Potemkin, which promises to be the largest space gunship in existence. It is slightly smaller than the EUS Charlemagne, but larger the Strasbourg class warships.

Summer: Wall at 14th Street comes down.

Fall: Crisis in EU. Strasbourg finally demands that Commonwealth space ships place themselves under the command of the EU new Space Fleet Command. The RUK argues that it agreement was with the ESA and not the EU in regards to the RUK Space Programs. RUK pulls out of its association with the EU. War looms, but the EU lets, the RUK go and commences waging a not so subtle economic warfare campaign, which the RUK handles with Commonwealth and US support.

2036

The EUS Orleans is launched, and construction of the EUS Madrid commences. The FBC colony ship arrives in Mercury orbit and quickly touches down near the planet’s North Pole. Because of the much reduced life support needs of the crew they can carry more equipment to quickly build the main colony building out of the colony ship itself. This was a one-way mission.

Spring: The British Commonwealth of Nations reorganizes its charter and becomes a larger more coordinated power bloc. It establishes its own Space Fleet, but maintains separate land armies. Queen Victoria II remains titular head of the Commonwealth and actually maintains a great deal of influence and control. They begin construction of an orbital dockyard and armored space station, the New Buckingham Palace. It is constructed with primarily Royal Funds with other Commonwealth investors. No government funds are being used so it is set to become the largest privately owner space station in Earth orbit. The majority stockholder of the corporation was Queen Victoria II.

Summer: Holland Tunnel reopened to Union City, NJ.

Fall: President Whindham comfortably wins reelection for his own second term. The Republicans remain in control of the Senate.

2037

We restarted running Campaigns after nine year skip with Romanian Campaign. This campaign is the first in a series of geopolitical plots play out that determine the direction and outcome of World War III/Cold War II. Mars starts building a new light cruiser, MSS Isidis.

2038

People’s Republic of China begins construction of space carrier, PSS Long March.

The Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China sign treaty and Taiwan becomes a province of China again. The local government retains some of its democratic features on the local level.

General Pershing is made Commandant of the Marines.

Hungry invades Romania starting the Transylvanian War.

2039

The EUS Napoleon Bonaparte, a Charlemagne Class space carrier is launched from its test bed platform at the L-2. USS Constitution, last of class is launched. United States upgrades its orbital docks.

Romania, supported by high tech mecha constructed by the Disney Corp, defeats EU supported Hungry in the Transylvanian War. The peace treaty effectively relieves Romania of most all of its debt to the EU. Romania gets a constitutional monarchy led by reformist King Nicholas I, grandson of Michael I and known as the “Rock of the Capathians” from his defense of Cluj-Napoca during the recent war.

Supreme Court Ruling allows President Windham to run for a third term.

2040

The EUS Madrid is launched. EU Orbital Shipbuilding Docks are being rebuilt. USS Ronald Reagan, a Battlestar (small carrier/large battleship), has its keel laid in US orbital docks.

Project Longreach, which is now a joint USA/Mars operation heads out to in secret from the Jovian system to Alpha Centauri. It carries half of a “Jump Gate” to connect the two start systems.

President Windham is reelected to a third term by a narrow 50.2% to 49.5% with minor third party votes .3%

2041

The Japanese launch the Zuikaku. Construction starts of the space carrier Hiru.

The corporate sponsors of the Mercury colony appoint a non-cyborg governor over the objections of the Metal Society. The cyborgs on the Mercury Colony revolt when ordered to prepare the new colony for regular human habitation. The corporate master plan reveals that corporate appointees from Earth will fill many of the supervisory positions. The Republic of Mars immediately recognizes the new government on Mercury.

An EU Fleet consisting of the EUS Charlemagne, EUS Aachen and the EUS Madrid head to Mercury to put down the Cyborg Rebellion.

MSS Deimos heads back to Mars and leaves its “station” in orbit of one of the Jovian moons.

New Buckingham Palace is competed. Construction begins on civilian ships only there with the exception of some deltas. The New Commonwealth Navy limits itself to a few delta squadrons.

2042

The Russian cruiser, Potemkin, is launched. The EU space docks at the L-2 point are finished being overhauled. Construction commences on two new space vessels: the EUS Bismarck, a large battlecruiser, and a new deep space exploration vessel, the Vasco deGama.
